Description

I can safely say that this is one of the rarest bottles of Vintage
Pommery for sale on the open market. In fact it is one of incredibly few champagnes available anywhere at all from this year, never mind a top house like Pommery. This has been cellared privately, sealed in a wooden case with five other bottles for the best part of sixty years. It is now in my temperature and humidity controlled wine storage unit and is looking for a new home.

The foil is a little corroded at the top, but there is no evidence of leakage. Label is in excellent condition and the level is also excellent, just below the bottom of the foil - this shows all the hallmarks of a well kept wine that should certainly still be drinkable, however in its sealed state as a piece of history it is of course highly unusual, being a 'war vintage' wine.

I do have another bottle of this, with a slightly lower fill and a more tatty foil, which will be auctioned after this one.

As a guide, there seems to be just one bottle of 1943 Champagne available in the UK at present, a Dom Perignon (which is obviously rather more sought after as a brand) and this is listed at over £1200 exclusive of tax, hence the hig, but I feel entirely realistic, starting price.
