An extremely rare and mature bottle of St Emillion top estate Chateau Ausone in outstanding condition from the 1937 (!) vintage (which was a very good vintage for the right bank).
Given the age this bottle is in absolutely fabulous condition with one of the best fill levels in my collection of anything older than 80 years.
It is possilbe that the bottle was reconditioned, however I unlike with various other bottle we have no records left for this one (Chateau reconditioning is usually marked with a small separate label, on the new label and often directly on the cork as well).
The old Ausone capsule is firmly attached and and quite intact with very little corrosion or cracking, the fill level is around base of neck (!) and the label is perfectly readable with some soiling and scuffs (see images).
The glass bottle itself is a beautiful example of pre-WWII Bordeaux bottle finishing:
Quite tall and heavy with an extremely deep (ca.5cm+) and thin bottom section with a typical irregular finishing that hold sediment very tightly, the shape of the bottle is slightly concave rather than entirely straight.
Certainly a beautiful collection piece!
