Description

An excellent survivor from "A great (5*) vintage" Michael Broadbent

He adds "the 49s are holding fairly well - drying out less than the 45s (5*) and firmer than the 47s (4*) which they ressemble in many ways but with more finesse and elegance"

A specific entry in his Great Vintage Wine Book :-
"One of my favourite wines.

Like Charles Keene, the artist s artist , Cantemerle is the claret man s claret.

Phillipe de Rothschild likes Cantemerle best after his own" (!)

"Fabulous colour, lovely garnet red, autumnal at the edge; exquisitely perfumed bouquet, high-toned delicate cabernet; dry, fullish but not plump like a 49 Pomerol texture, elegant, refreshing - only lacking the length of a first growth"

This bottle has lain horizontally in my temperature-controlled cellar since I acquired it. Its capsule is solid, the label complete and the level hs/vhs -so a lovely example.

Wine Searcher has this listed currently only in the USA for more than £900; it had been listed in Europe until recently at more than £500 but that bottle has clearly been sold.

My reserve is more than half of that but still allows someone an absolute bargain.
