This is a two bottle lot comprising one bottle each of Ch. Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (usually abbreviated to "Pichon Lalande") and Ch. Leoville Barton from the 2002 vintage. Bid for Wine buyers are likely aware that both estates are second growths and have been performing extremely well for several decades towards the top end of the left bank hierarchy. The 2002 vintage is drinking well now. Although it is deemed a "lighter" vintage, the better wines have aged slowly and gracefully (which is not to be taken as a given in some younger vintages that initially were rated more highly). As near neighbours I anticipate that these bottles will make an informative comparison.
The bottles were purchased on release from WineandCo (France) and stored in my cool cellar since delivery. The labels are good, with a few more minor markings on the Barton. Levels are into the neck with no signs of ullage. The Barton has some corrosion to the lower part of the capsule but has an original protective secondary clear plastic cover over the top. Only the Pichon has a back label. Overall these bottles are of excellent appearance after nearly twenty years.
