Description

Amazing piece of treasure of in time-warp condition. Absolutely mint in every detail.

I unearthed this bottle in the cellar of a grand house where the owner had sadly developed heart disease and could no longer drink. I've had the pleasure of sampling several bottles from the collection (simply my professional obligation, you understand), and the contents of every one have so far been in amazing condition.

I haven't yet sampled a Bordeaux from the cellar quite this old (although I do have a couple of '59s winking at me), but I have gone as far back as the early 80s, and all were perfect. I've also sampled white Burg back to '78 and Port as old as '55. Again, all superb. I guess my experiences can offer us great confidence in the contents of this magnificent bottle, which laid undisturbed from delivery until I bought it, and which was only removed from OWC for the fist time for its photo-shoot.

Whilst a relatively unheralded vintage at release, the recent reviews on Cellar Tracker are amazing, so it seems this wine really found its mojo over the decades. There are 5 in the last decade with an average score of 92.4. You can read them here https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=151895

The most recent one in English (June '17) gave it a whopping 97/100 - "In Magnum. Opened 2 hours before service. Note of herbal, floral. Strength comes out after another 1 hour in the glass. Fully integrated tannins, some complexity and medium finish. Surprisingly, the muscular structure gradually formed after 2 hours (in the glass). Finishing becomes long. Amazing wine. I am sure the wine could last for at least another 5-10 years."

A note on the bottle size. I've put 5 litres as that's the only option I can select on the BFW system. But given the age I suspect this is actually 4.5l / 6 bottles. Of course, what with being French and from the 70s, there's no mention anywhere on the labeling - it simply says "Jero" on the wooden case.

I'm getting in the Christmas spirit and offering this with no reserve, so might turn out to be the bargain of the century. I've put delivery at £30 as I really think this reserves to a specialist carrier, or I'm very happy for you to arrange your own transport. In fact, for London bidders I'm be very happy to deliver personally.

Bonne chance!
