Rare bottle of Chambertin Clos de Beze Grand Cru, Domaine Pierre Gelin, 1961
Excellent level, capsule is in good condition and shows no sign of seepage. Label has faded over the years but is still legible.
Bottle has been stored in temperature-controlled wine cellar.
Clos de Bèze is the oldest of the Burgundy clos and was awarded the Grand Cru appellation by the 1937 decree. The Clos de Bèze wines are delicate, strong, complex, and more supple and refined in texture than the Chambertins. Their aromas suggest strawberry, blackcurrant, and gooseberry as well as fruit pits, liquorice, and spices. Violet, moss and underbrush are also likely to be present. On the palate, power, opulence and elegance unite to make a full and complex body, full of sap and voluptuousness textured. They take a long time to mature, but they are worth waiting for.
