Carmel Winery was founded in 1882 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild, owner of Chateau Lâfite. The main winery is situated at Zichron Ya’acov, on the slopes of Mt. Carmel overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Carmel remains Israel’s largest winery, with vineyards all over the country, but is particularly well represented in the cooler climate, higher altitude Upper Galilee.
