The 1941 Ch d'Yquem was tasted as part of the historic 2005 Yquem tasting in Copenhagen, along with 64 other vintages from 1847 onwards. The tasting notes are as follows.........Colour of pale tea. It had nose of sherry and rum, with substantial acidity on the palate. This was quite full-bodied and concentrated wine, good old one, which apparently has 2-4 more years to keep on going.
Judging by the retail prices attributed to this wine, it is indeed still going strong!
It has been attributed with 91 WS points.
Not only is this wine from the finest sweet wine estate in the world, it represents a piece of history. It is a war time wine made at a time when France, and her resources for making wine, had been stripped bare by the 3rd Reich. By all accounts getting bottles was a struggle! This truly is a product of man's resolve against adversity in producing art.
There is no Reserve on this wine. Happy bidding!
