Overview

Chateau Tour du Haut Moulin has been owned by the popular Pitou family since they first purchased the estate all the way back in 1870.

Today, Chateau Tour du Haut Moulin is managed by a direct descendant of the original founder, Louis Poitou. The 32 hectare vineyard is planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The vines are on average 25 years of age. The terroir is gravel, sand and clay soils.

The vineyard is situated inland in the Haut Medoc appellation. This places the estate in the communes of Fort Medoc and Cussac and not too far from Chateau Beaumont in the middle of both the St. Julien and Margaux appellations.

Chateau Tour du Haut Moulin vinification takes place in traditional, temperature controlled, cement tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in cement vats. The wine is then aged in 30% new, French oak barrels for between 12 to 15 months before the wine is bottled. Typically a dense old fashioned claret in style, it rewards years of ageing.

The second wine is called Florilge de Tour du Haut-Moulin.

On average, the production is close to 15,000 cases of wine per vintage of Chateau Tour du Haut Moulin.
