Overview

Chateau La Tour Carnet is a Bordeaux wine estate in the appellation Haut-Medoc. The wine produced here was classified as one of ten Quatrimes Crus (Fourth Growths) in the historic Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, at the time known by the name of Carnet. It is now the largest classified growth in Bordeaux by area under vine and produces a average of 900,000 bottles a year.

The estate has been owned by Bernard Magrez since 1999. Chateau La Tour Carnet extends 126 hectares, of which 73 ha are under vine, planted with 56% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc of red grape varieties, as well as white grape varieties of which there is a distribution of 45% Sauvignon Blanc, 15% Sauvignon Gris and 30% Semillon.

A second wine is produced under the label Les Douves du Chateau La Tour Carnet renamed Les Pensees de La Tour Carnet in 2014.

La Tour Carnet is continuously doing research and experimenting with ways to protect the Bordeaux from future problems that they might incur due to climate changes in the region as they fear that the weather might get too hot for the Merlot grape and with the extensive research they intend on protecting the heritage and quality of the wines. To this end they have planted 75 varieties of grape to understand th impact of climate change. They are alos expriemting with the use of Drones and Robots in the vineyards.

This has been considered a wine to watch having seen huge quality increases since 2010.
