Chateau La Tour de By is a large Cru Bourgeois estate. La Tour de By's actual chateau is a stately building dating back to 1876. The estate consists of 75 hectares of vineyards and is located in Begadan at the viticultural northern extremes of the Medoc. La Tour de By was bought in 1965 by Messieurs Pages, Cailloux and Lapalu and they extended the cuvier and installed new cellars. The Pages family have been sole owners since 2017. They are fierce proponents of the en Primeur policy of offering a 40% price advantage vs the bottle release price.
The wine is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. It is matured in oak barriques 20% new for 14 months. Whilst the wines are Cabernet-dominated, they are generally well balanced packed with lively and spicy blackcurrant fruit and bolstered by a framework of well-integrated toasty oak.
Chateau La Tour de By is unquestionably one of the leading Cru Bourgeois properties in the Medoc.
