Description

One of 3 bottles of Port from the late 1800s/early 1900s I'm selling with an amazing history. They were owned by King George VI's personal surgeon who was a very public and vocal tee-totaller, so upon his death they were quickly sold by his wife in a hush-hush deal to a gentleman who squirreled them away in his cellar untouched until his recent death. I purchased them from his daughter.

All bottles are remarkably well preserved. The level is quite incredible - still into the neck - and this bottle has 1896 clearly written on it. It looks to me like the producer is Quinta do Goutellio, but the last word is a bit tricky to read. Could be a Y or even a J I guess. I can't find any likely candidates on Google. Have given you close up of the labels so you can draw your own conclusions.

The bottles have been in my care for about a year now during which they have been on their sides in my cellar. There is no sign whatsoever of seepage or stickiness around the capsules. They really are remarkable antiques, preserved beyond expectations.
