Description

Perhaps a wine to celebrate a Fiftieth Anniversary? From the tasting notes below, this bottle should still be holding up well:-

"One of the finest wines made at Canon during the sixties, this full-bodied,rich,still vigorous, and opulent wine has a roasted, spicy, tar, and plummy bouquet, heady, alcoholic flavors, and considerable length. There's more muscle than finesse to this vintage of Canon. Anticipated maturity: Now". Last tasted,April 1991.
(88 Points).

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

Two more recent tasting notes on the 1964 Chateau Canon:-

"Truly great wine - blind I would have called it an '82.Perfect condition, bright and lively with good acidity and some tannins at the back, enormous ripe, red fruits with loads of maturity but clearly not close to over the hill. When people talk about old-fashioned wine, this is what they mean, where after 46 years there is maturity but the wine is effortless"
(96 Points).

TREE512. (CellarTracker. 16/5/2010).

"Truffle, tobacco, cherry blossom, earth and crushed stone scents create the perfume.Medium-bodied and fully mature, the wine ended with a clean, albeit too short of a spicy, cherry filled finish. This was much better on the nose than on the palate.I've tasted better bottles. But at close to 50 years of age, there are no things such as great wines, just great bottles"
(90 Points).

JEFF LEVE. (CellarTracker. 13/2/2012)
