Description

A first class bottle from the great '66 vintage.

Complete, clean and crisp label. Unmarked embossed capsule, and a good level at base of neck.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A respectable effort from Figeac, nicely made, fruity, fragrant, with scents of ripe fruit and cedarwood, this wine was fully mature when last tasted, yet has the stuffing and balance to age well. Not as big or as full bodied as either the 1964 or 1970, the 1966 is elegant and attractive. (RP) (1/1998)

Wine Spectator
A tight, slightly lean wine, with attractive tobacco and herb aromas and elegant fruit flavours. Medium-bodied, with good tannins and a long finish. (10/1991)

K&L Notes
A five-star wine, according to critic Michael Broadbent in his book, Vintage Wine: "On the last two occasions, quite independently, I described the bottles as typical Manoncourt wines, full of fruit and character. It was showing well at the 1er grand cru tasting in May 1997, most attractive, most distinctive, its fragrance reminding me of privet. Five months later, a bottle straight from Bob Dickinson's fabulous cellar and which took time to open up. But good. Last noted at a tasting at Jodi and Bob's home in Florida, Nov. 1997."

Consistent across two bottles. Beautiful white pepper highlights on the classic nose. Red fruit, dry earth, and tobacco notes. Palate is one notch down from the nose.

Fully mature, the tobacco, cigar box and cedar notes really showed the ripe Cabernet fruits. Earthy, medium bodied, soft and silky, with a red berry core of spicy fruit, there is no reason to age this wine any longer

Older Bordeaux Evening with Friends (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): Fully mature black fruit, roast meat, lots of earth, and a few rough edges on finish. Very enjoyable.

Mature and mellow nose, but without obvious fading. White pepper, red fruit and soil notes. Smooth on the palate with a stronger finish than the last bottle I experienced. Classic Figeac notes but softened somewhat with age. Consumed with partridge.
