"The 1970 Giscours continues to offer a large-scaled,spicy,licorice,earth,cedar,curranty,and leathery nose,backed up by muscular,full-bodied,tannic flavors.This fully mature,fleshy,distinctive wine is unlikely ever to completely shed its tannin,but there is good size,fine ripeness,and an overall sense of balance".Last tasted,June 1996.

Named in the book "1001 Wines You must taste before you die",it was described as follows:-

"In 1970 the Medoc in particular turned out wines of extraordinary longevity,partly as a result of an unusually late harvest,which did not get underway until October.
Giscours 1970 is dense and dark,still offering up licorice hints as well as fistfuls of pulpy blackberries as it embarked on its maturity in the early 1990s.Secondary development added dried figs and a herbal note (possibly oregano),but the ample muscle of the wine,supported by elegant tannins that have aged gracefully,continues to sustain it. Drink: to 2015+". Written,approx.2008
