Description

An pair from the 1970 vintage which has Neal Martin raving...

Both have complete labels, one has a vertical damp stain and a couple of minor bin scrapes, the other is near perfect.

Good levels at 'base of neck' and very top shoulder attest to good cellaring..

Similarly both (embossed) capsules are in good order and certainly no signs of any seepage.

Wine Journal Jan 2010 Neal Martin 95 Drink 2010 - 2020
One of the all-time great Giscours when the estate was at its zenith. Served blind at dinner at Chateau du Tertre, it has that typical masculine bouquet with sultry black fruits, tobacco and sous-bois, unfurling beautifully with passing minutes to reveal sandalwood, violets and smoke. Beautiful definition. The palate is medium-bodied with bewitching balance and a sense of natural harmony that is utterly beguiling. This is mature Margaux at its best and undoubtedly one of the great wines of the vintage. Drink now-2020. Tasted September 2009.

Wine Journal Jan 2000 Neal Martin 92-94
A wine of great repute, this did not disappoint. A noticeably deep colour. The nose is quite masculine at first, soon developing some Margaux-like femininity with notes of violets, pine and blackberry. The palate is well-built, balanced with good acidity. Very focused and harmonious like the 1978. Fresh, begging another sip. A superb 1970. Tasted September 2002.
