Description

Fortieth Anniversary or Birthday? The 1976 Pichon-Longueville-Lalande should be a good bottle of claret to celebrate the occasion with:-

"The top 1976's appear to have stayed at their peak of maturity, without fading or losing their fruit.I wish I had bought more of this vintage, given how delicious the best wines have been over an extended period of time".
"The Pichon Lalande 1976 is highly successful for the vintage. The color is medium ruby with some brown and amber at the edges.A gentle, suave, interesting mature bouquet and soft, round, curranty flavors have provided pleasure since the seventies.Yet the wine refuses to fade.Still at its peak".

Above excerpts from Robert Parker's book "Bordeaux.A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition".

I tasted a bottle of this wine about three years ago and it was still drinking extremely well. The 1976 Pichon-Lalande was named in the above book,in the section "Best Wines of the Vintage" by Robert Parker.
Please note that with any wine of this age, each bottle can be variable in quality.
