Description

In Robert Parker's book "Bordeaux.A Comprehensive Guide",he says that there were a number of successful wines in 1981 in Bordeaux,particularly from the appellations of Pomerol,St.Julien and Pauillac.He singles out Leoville Las Cases as being one of the best wines of the vintage from St.Julien.
Leoville Las Cases is usually a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon,19% Merlot,13% Cabernet Franc,and 3% Petit Verdot.Parker tasted the 1981 Cabernet Sauvignon component part in barrel and also the finished blended wine and his tasting comments were:-

"An excellent deep ruby color,a spicy bouquet of cedar,tobacco,and currants,and good depth and ripeness.A classic,elegantly wrought wine,this is one vintage where the final blend was more complex,but no better than the Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee.Last tasted,March 1995".
