Description

A rare fine indeed! From a private cellar in central Scotland.
The level is an excellent 'base of neck', the label is complete - see photo - and the embossed capsule covers a firm cork.

From a review found on the internet dating from 2015.

Is this the best wine ever? Well, perhaps not. There have been some pretty special Burgundies, and one or two magnificent German Rieslings along the way, but last night’s Chateau Angelus 1982, was right up there on Olympus.
Yes, at 33 years of age it was still drinkable, wonderfully, remarkably drinkable. 1982 was, of course, one of the (many) “vintages of the century”, but such longevity is truly exceptional, even though their website recommends keeping 1988 until 2030.
I was not initially optimistic though – apart from the age, the cork was completely shot, and crumbled at the mere sight of the corkscrew. I wound up having to push the disintegrating remains into the bottle, then filter the wine.
The colour was a little browned but there was still plenty of acidity. It had a deep, soft mellow delicacy, and was about as far removed from a jammy Napa Merlot as it’s possible to imagine.
Chateau Angelus is a Saint-Emilion, on the right bank in Bordeaux, and is made from approximately two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Franc. The property was recently promoted to Premiere Grand Cru Classé but this bottle bears the more humble Grand Cru Classé designation.
The wine was deep and dusty, like a sachet of dried roses in an attic, or a kindly old marquise with a twinkle in her eye. There were hints of dried fruits and the earthy undertones of figs, but without the sweetness.
Sipping it with a rack of lamb was a sublime religious experience, its subtle charm so elusive it would escape many drinkers.
