Looking back over what I have enjoyed in the last year,1982 Clarets were the most consistent mature wines.The irony is that only a few years ago I was advising you to drink them up,but they seem to have taken on a new life with more volume and power than had seemed apparent.

When I issued my report on the Bordeaux 1982 vintage in the April 1983 Wine Advocate,I remember feeling that I had not tasted richer,more concentrated,more promising wines than the 1982's.Two decades later,despite some wonderfully successful years,such as 1985,1986,1989,1990,1995,1996 and 2000,1982 remains the modern day point of reference for the greatness that Bordeaux can achieve.
