1983 Chateau du Tertre (Margaux) No Reserve

Description

The 1983 vintage in Margaux was exceptional and in most cases even better than the legendary 1982 vintage. It produced rich, ripe, tannic wines and with the initial austerity having melted away, they are now showing at their best (as the tasters mention below "ethereal and elegant with a very long finish").Across the board the 1983 Margaux appellation wines are now in the process of peaking and in their optimum drinking window and evidence of this are the three most recent tasting notes on the 1983 Chateau du Tertre on Cellartracker:-

"“Bordeaux 1959 – 2014 (blind)”, flight 4, wine 3. I did not see this coming. Medium ruby, almost garnet in colour, with watery edges; so far so good. Then, as I raised the glass, the nose made a promise – and suddenly I knew this would be good. A very subtle nose of cherry and tobacco, mild spice and discreet ethereal notes. The first sip; still good fruit, red and some dark berries, cherry, some tobacco and mild earthy notes, carried by good, smooth acidity, with perfectly integrated tannin and incredible length. Medium- to light-bodied, elegant, incredibly balanced, weightless. No spitting. Just smiling. Speechless. Thank you!".
(96 Points).

Cellartracker. (21/11/2016).

"On a rainy day in California, I opened this wine and was both surprised and pleased, nose of saddle leather, cigar box, and forest floor, same on the palate, medium body, showing its age gloriously, elegant, delicious tasting, mouth filling fruit, enjoyed over the next 5 hours, long, long, flavorful finish".
(97 Points).

Cellartracker. (19/2/2017).

"Muddy red and brown with an aroma of flowers, wet dirt, and cooked fruit. This was wonderful! On the attack, red fruit gave way to dark fruit, and cinnamon and spice emerged on the mid-palate through the finish. Really enjoyable though not amazing. Better than your average 34 year old bottle".
(93 Points).

Cellartracker. (23/7/2017).
