Description

The lot consists of 3 bottles of 1983 claret:-

One bottle of 1983 Chasse-Spleen. (Moulis en Medoc).
One bottle of 1983 Lafleur-Gazin. (Pomerol).
One bottle of 1983 La Louviere. (Graves).

Recent tasting notes on these wines appear to be very few and far between.However some fairly recent tasting notes on CellarTracker were as follows:-


1983 La Louviere.

"Smell: Earth,mushrooms,red and dark fruits,leather,tobacco,and a hint of cedar.
Taste: Vibrant red fruits,with good acidity and tannin presence.The fruit seems to explode in the mid-palate as the wine unfolds into something soft and caressing for the palate.
Overall: A wonderful wine that is testament to good storage and patience.Still has enough fruit,tannin,and acidity to last another 4-6 years with good storage...but why wait if you have some?".

1983 Chasse-Spleen.

"Dark red with browning hue throughout.Claret nose which makes the '99 Castello seem much less Bordeaux-like now.Great nose,with bell pepper,coffee grinds,some tobacco and mature red fruits.Tart red flavours on the palate.Slightly grainy mouth feel.Good amounts of acid and tannin.Drinking very well now. Excellent".

1983 Lafleur-Gazin.

I cannot find a recent tasting note of this wine.However,very well situated between the two Chateaux that make up its name,Lafleur and Gazin,Chateau Lafleur-Gazin is a very reliable source of good quality Pomerol.The estate is part of the Christian Mouiex group,of Chateau Petrus fame and this is reflected (when young) in its rich fruity style.The vineyards are planted with a typical Pomerol mix of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc grape.After fermentation,the wine spends 20 months ageing in French oak barrels.25% of the barrels are new each year.
The French wine retail site,Antique.wines.net are currently quoting a sale price of 75 Euros for a bottle of Lafleur-Gazin 1983.
