Description

The 1985 Cos D'Estournel is of supreme quality,a wine that is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot,and was aged in 100% new oak for the first time.It is cast from the same mould as the 1982 and 1953 vintages.It is forward,with a fabulously scented bouquet of toasty new oak and concentrated red fruit.On the palate,it is rich,lush and full-bodied.(Tasted approx.1987).

Parker later wrote on this wine:-

Tasted 8 times since bottling,with consistent notes.
The 1985 is cast in the mould of the 1982 and 1953 vintages.Forward,with a fabulously scented bouquet of toasty new oak and concentrated red and black fruits(especially black cherries),it is rich,lush,long and full-bodied.Already delicious,it should age beautifully for 12-18 years.

A more recent tasting note that I have located:-

A lovely rich classically styled Bordeaux,with a touch of richness beyond the normal Bordeaux.On the nose,the wine is restrained,with a hint of tobacco and earth.On the palate,the richness fills the mouth with cigar box,tobacco and flint.The wine is well-rounded and fully mature.It has years left,but waiting will not bring additional complexity.The finish is nice and lasts and lasts.
