Description

A mini-vertical of this famous Lebanon wine.

Nicholls & Perks website:
1986 was a difficult year - something of a drought year in the Bekaa Valley. The grapes were also difficult which proved to be a great experience in the wine-making.
Very nice cherry colour with unexpected remarkable tears. Smoky, leathery and even animal smell turning to hot chocolate and ripe fruits. Velvety in the mouth, round, full-bodied, spicy fruit with a lengthy finish.
"Mature looking, almost chocolate scented, delicious 1986" Michael Broadbent - April 2000 "It's warm cedary, typically sweet with lingering chocolate and cherry, extraordinarily drinkable."

1987 (Wine Anorak)
Château Musar 1987 (red)
Classy nose which is ripe, rich, sweet and herby, with some leathery complexity. The palate is mature and rounded; rich and full bodied. Very smooth and refined with great balance. Mature. Very good/excellent 92/100

(Corksout website) The 1991 vintage is a fantastic exmple of this exceptional lebanese wine. It is brilliant tawny/orange in colour, with a nose of redcurrants, mature plums and a certain meatiness. The palate is full, rich and concentrated, with cherry, macerated fruits, leather, earthy spice and subtle vanilla oak. On the finish it exhibits smooth tannins and a long, citrus finish.

Jun 2013 Mark Squires 90 Drink: 2013 - 2025 $84-$95 (50)
The 1994 Chateau Musar is a sweet and relatively sexy Musar on opening, with some brett nuances (surprise!), but nice fruit and a chocolate-y note in the background. Early on, I didn’t think this would show much power, but 2 ½ hours of air changed my mind on that. There is more muscle here than seems apparent at first. It eventually seemed tightly wound. It should age well and it shows fine balance. As it aired, the bretty notes became more prominent, an understandable distraction for those who object to them. Drink now-2025.
