Description

Château Nairac is a wine estate in the Barsac commune of the Sauternes region of Bordeaux. It was classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé (Second Growth) in the Sauternes and Barsac Classification of 1855.

This amazing dessert wine is heavily based on the Semillon grape variety. It has a reputation for elegance and minerality, and is regarded as one of the best examples from Barsac. When I tried a bottle I called it "stonkingly good" and you can quote me on that!!

The 17 hectares (42 acres) of vineyard are situated near Château Climens and Château Coutet. A 9ha block is situated around the Château building, and is regarded as their best terroir. Plantings are 90 percent Semillon, 6 Sauvignon Blanc and 4 percent Muscadelle. Vines average over 30 years of age. In the winery, two-thirds of the wine is fermented then matured in new French oak barrels. Typically around 2,500 cases of Chateau Nairac are produced each year, so you need to grab it when you see it.

These bottles come from an OWC purchased 2 years ago. With an immaculate presentation, and fill levels good, these wines are in excellent condition. I tried the first bottle out of the case last year and I was blown away with the quality and depth (see my comment above). Currently lying in a wine merchants premises.
