Description

The lot consists of two bottles of Classed Growth Claret from the exceptional 1990 vintage:

One bottle of Chateau Leoville Barton (St.Julien) 2eme Cru Classe.
One bottle of Chateau Malescot St.Exupery (Margaux) 3eme Cru Classe.

"Believe it or not,the 1990 Leoville Barton can actually be drunk - something that cannot be said about the broodingly backward, still excruciatingly tannic 1982.The exceptionally concentrated 1990 reveals more polished sweeter tannins, along with a big sweet kiss of blackcurrant, forest floor, cedar, and spice box notes. While it still has some tannins to shed, this full-bodied,powerful,long wine is approachable. It should continue to evolve for another two decades"
(93+ Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #183. June 2009).

"I still believe the 1990 to be an exceptional Leoville Barton, certainly the best wine made after 1982 and marginally superior to the delicious 1985 and tannic 1986".

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

Wine tasting notes on the bottle of 1990 Malescot St.Exupery:-

"This wine continues to develop impressively in the bottle. While not one of the vintage's blockbusters, it possesses all the classic elegance, fragrance, and harmony one expects of a high quality Margaux. The color remains a healthy dark ruby with a purple hue. The nose offers up lush, sweet, jammy black currant fruit intermixed with aromas of white flowers, spice, and a touch of smoky oak. It is medium-bodied, with a savory, expansive mouthfeel. This low
acid, rich, multi-layered wine is approachable, yet capable of evolving gracefully".
(90 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. January 1998).

The most recent tasting note on the 1990 Malescot St.Exupery on Cellartracker:-

"The nose is floral, blackcurrant and plum driven. It also has generous leather and earthy notes too.

PnP and the wine is in business. On the palate, it has wonderful flavours of blossom, violet, blackcurrant, leather, sweet tobacco and earth. It is nicely balanced by good level of acidity and well integrated tannins. Long finish.

This wine hardly needs aeration, but pour slowly enough to keep the sendiments to the bottom".
(90 Points).

Cellartracker. (24/2/2017).
