Description

The lot consists of 2 bottles of Barolo from the 1993 vintage:-

1 bottle of Domenico Clerico Pajana Barolo 1993.
1 bottle of Paolo Scavino Cannubi Barolo 1993.

Domenico Clerico, one of the truly fun characters of Piedmont turned in superlative performances in 1993 and 1994.The Clerico Pajana 1993 is an opaque dark colour, with a chocolate, black raspberry, cherry, and truffle nose, sweet, rich, concentrated fruit flavors,an expansive mid-palate,and impressive opulence and richness in a nicely textured, long finish.(Tasted,approx.1998).
(94 Points).

Robert Parker (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Fifth Edition).

I have located a more recent tasting of this wine on CellarTracker:-

Purple in the glass, this was a full-bodied and rich Barolo that had a very nice balance to it.Ready to drink now with well resolved tannins, aromas and flavors of dark berries, black cherries, dark chocolate, and violets abounded from the glass.A nice lively acidity kept the wine from feeling heavy.Long on the finish. The '93s from better producers remain the bargain of the Barolo world.
(94 Points).

JeffGMorris. (CellarTracker. 4/7/2011).

While Scavino's 1993s may not possess the power, intensity, and extract of the great 1990s,qualitatively they are equals.
The 1993 Barolo Cannubi(50% new oak casks) is the most backward wine of this trio. The dark ruby/purple color is followed by a nose that reluctantly gives up aromas of smoke, earth, and black cherries. The wine makes a beautiful impression with its display of richness and well-integrated tannin and acidity. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. This is a youthful as well as one of the least evolved Barolos I tasted. It will require 2-4 years of cellaring, when released and will drink well for 15-20 years.(Tasted,approx.1998).
(92+ Points).
