Description

The Decanter Magazine tasting notes on "Rioja's Greatest" in November 2016:-

"When the standards are this high,it is somewhat invidious to pick out particular wines and vintages. But the two 1995s (a Gran Reserva 890 from La Rioja Alta and the CVNE Contino Reserva,presented by Julio Saenz and Maria Larrea) got us off to a cracking start. And as we moved back through the decades,there was no let up in definition,complexity or pleasure".

The individual tasting note for the 1995 CVNE Contino Rioja Reserva:-

"Still very much in its prime with good depth of colour and an inviting nose of red fruits,smoke and espresso. On the palate,this has a roasted savoury quality with bright raspberry and strawberry fruit and a touch of spice and coffee bean. This was aged in oak for two years 70% of which was French and 30% American. Complex,beautifully balanced and impressively long. Drink 2016-2026+".

This bottle was bought on release and has since been stored in a purpose-built,temperature-controlled cellar.Apart from a slight vertical scrape mark on the label,it is in excellent condition,with the wine fill into neck and the label and capsule in a very good state.
