an immaculate bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild 1995

perfect for Christmas Lunch? Turkey or Beef, rich gravy, and a stunning, mature First Growth claret? It's what I'll be doing :)

Beyond that, its Lafite so not much to say.

Couple of notes from Parker:

Medium to dark ruby-colored and sporting a nose of smoke, lead pencil, and cassis, the 1995 Lafite-Rothschild is a sexy, generous wine. Pure, well-defined, and intense, it slathers the palate with layers of super-ripe blackberries, cassis, and sweet herbal notes. This broad, ample, fleshy effort is one of the flashiest young Lafites I've encountered. Projected maturity: 2007-2030 95 Points

The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well when I tasted it in November, 1997. It exhibits a dark ruby purple color, and a sweet, powdered mineral, smoky, weedy cassis-scented nose. Beautiful sweetness of fruit is present in this medium-bodied, tightly-knit, but gloriously pure, well-delineated Lafite. The 1995 is not as powerful or as massive as the 1996, but it is beautifully made with outstanding credentials, in addition to remarkable promise. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2028. 95 Points

In short, its simply a superb wine, and in my opinion has the freshness, clarity, and delineation over superb depth of fruit to challenge Ch. Latour for wine of the vintage.

1995 is a wonderful vintage, one of the finest on the left bank in the 1990's.
