Description

A superb mature 1995 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port from one of the Douro Valley's most celebrated single estates.

Quinta do Vesuvio lies in Portugal's remote Upper Douro / Douro Superior and has a long-standing reputation for producing powerful, concentrated Vintage Port. The estate was acquired by the renowned Symington family in 1989, whose historic Port houses include Graham's, Dow's and Warre's.

The 1995 was produced in the traditional manner, with the grapes trodden by foot in the estate's granite lagares before the young wine was matured and subsequently bottled at the Quinta in 1997.

Production was highly selective. According to the original rear label, Peter Symington selected just 52 pipes from a total production of 385 pipes for bottling as Quinta do Vesuvio 1995 Vintage Port.

The estate described the resulting wine as rich, dark and concentrated, with aromas of violets and gum cistus and a smooth, elegant palate. Now with over 30 years of maturity, this is a serious Vintage Port with the potential for beautifully developed dark fruit, blackberry, plum, dried fruit, spice, chocolate and floral characteristics.
