Description

An unusual opportunity to acquire a 31-year-old Romanian Cabernet Sauvignon, produced in the historic wine-growing area of Sâmburești.
This 1995 Sâmburești V.S.O.C. Vat 4 Cabernet Sauvignon is a fascinating survivor from Romanian wine production of the 1990s and is considerably less commonly encountered today than mature wines from the traditional Western European regions.
The original rear label provides particularly interesting information about the wine, describing Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Sâmburești on prized Terra Rossa (red earth) soils. It states that this particular Vat 4 was selected for the purity of its cassis-like fruit, together with good depth and grip.
Originally described as a ripe, cassis-like, juicy red with good balance and structure. With more than three decades of bottle age, a sound example may now show mature Cabernet characteristics of dried blackcurrant, dark fruit, tobacco, leather, earth and savoury spice.
