Straight from their original wooden case having been cellared at the Wine Society until very recently under optimal conditions.

Tasted at the Bordeaux lunch at The Ledbury. This is a fine Margaux for the vintage. Quite tight at first on the nose with touches of chocolate and wet tobacco, saline notes developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied, supple and generous with good fruit concentration. Smooth texture and quite plump on the finish thanks to the Merlot, although never harbouring ambitions for complexity. It is almost Saint Estephe-like after time in the glass. Drink now-2018. Tasted July 2010.

A sleeper of the vintage, Angludet's 1996 reveals an opaque purple colour, as well as a powerful, rich, black currant-scented nose with cedar, weedy tobacco, licorice, and earth in the background. Dense, backward, and atypically powerful and unevolved for a wine from this well-run chateau, this boldly made, tannic, yet impressively endowed wine will have a long lifeline. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2015.
