Description

Batailley's 1996 is a well-structured, old style Pauillac with a dense ruby/purple colour, earthy, cedar-tinged, black currant fruit in the aromatics and flavours, medium body, an excellent mid-palate, good depth, and a moderately tannic, firm, but pure finish. This very good to excellent Batailley will keep for two decades. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020. 87/100

The 1996 Batailley is showing very well on the nose with great definition: blackberry, cedar, mint and a touch of truffle, opening nicely with further aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with moderate complexity, relatively foursquare with tobacco and cigar-box infusing the broody black fruits. Nice harmony here although unashamedly foursquare and masculine. Now-2018 89/100
