Description

A vast estate of 150 hectares of which 119 in a single block are under vines is situated at Cussac-Fort-Médoc twixt Margaux to the south and Saint-Julien to the north.

Planted with 53% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot, 4% petit verdot and 3% cabernet franc and aged in oak barrels. 12.5% abv.

The estate underwent a radical renovation both of the renaissance style chateau (1854) and the vineyards from 1980 to 1986. It was sold to a French insurance giant G.M.F in partnership with the Japanese Suntory who also own Lagrange at St Julien which the bought in 1982.

"Deep colour. Good rounded cigar-box nose which comes through on the palate. Savory fruits. A bullish masculine wine: tarry and powerful. Good. Tasted March 2001".
