1997 Greenock Creek "Seven Acre Shiraz" (95 Points RP) No Reserve

Description

In the mid-nineties to early 2000s,the Greenock Creek wine production was overseen by the legendary Chris Ringland, one of Australia's genius winemakers.
Robert Parker has consistently maintained that during the Ringland era,he considered Greenock Creek to be not only one of his favourite wineries in Australia, but also in the whole world!

"Of all the flights, these stood out as being the most riveting of the entire tasting".
"The 1997 Shiraz Seven Acre is another big baby that goes on and on in the mouth.Soaring aromas of creme de cassis, smoke, blackberries, new saddle leather, and earth or followed by a layered, multidimensional wine of great purity, richness, and length. At age 12,this seems like a 2-3-year-old wine and while critics might ask "where is the complexity?",everything remains intact and my instincts suggest that this, like its siblings is a 30+ year wine. These wines tend to be drunk entirely too soon, and are often written off, before they have a chance to develop fully".
(95 Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #183. June 2009).

A more recent tasting note on the 1997 Seven Acre Shiraz:-

"Dark ruby purple color. Explosive nose of cassis/black currant, black cherries, licorice, elderberries, leather and some sweet spices. On the palate there is mainly "in-your-face" kind of black fruit, but also stunningly fresh flavors of tobacco leaf, menthol and some sweet spices. It's full-bodied and very dense, with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin adding some freshness and structure to the big and bold fruit. Very long finish. Somehow it feels like this wine can still age much more and will probably get a little more polished over the next years. It's probably not the last word about complexity, but not simple at all either. While my personal taste moved a little bit away from these wines over the years, it's still a top-notch Barossa Shiraz that has enough freshness to balance the big body".
(95 Points).
