Description

The lot consists of two bottles of the 1997 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz and one bottle of the 1999 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz.

In the mid to late nineties Sarah and Sparky Marquis built up the reputation of the Fox Creek winery into cult status.After 1998,they moved on to start up their own winery at Mollydooker and it is debatable whether Fox Creek wines have ever since kept up their original high standards.

In a revue of older Australian wine Robert Parker made in 2009,he rated the Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz wines of the Marquis era extremely highly:

"The three vintages of Reserve Shiraz were all sensational.The fully mature 1997 Reserve Shiraz was in total contrast to the monster 1996.Dark purple/garnet-colored with a sensational bouquet of crushed red and black fruits,charcoal,licorice,incense,and floral undertones,it is full-bodied,with sweet,well-integrated tannin,acidity,alcohol,and no evidence of wood.Owners can drink it now or hold it for another 5-6 years".

I have no Parker tasting note on the 1999 Reserve Shiraz,but it is unlikely to come up to the quality of the two bottles of 1997,as it was produced in the post-Marquis era at Fox Creek.
