"The 1998 Fonsalette Cotes du Rhone Syrah exhibits a typical black purple color as well as a knock-out nose of animal fur,creme de cassis,truffles and damp earth.This dense,huge,concentrated,formidably-endowed wine is a superb expression of southern Rhone Syrah.It is for serious collectors only.Anticipated maturity 2006-2020".

"Aah now we're talking.2nd bottle I've opened from the same half case,and this one is a beauty,in almost Hermitage/Cornas style.Popped and poured,the identifiable Syrah nose of dark berries,menthol,dried fig,was deep and expansive.On the palate,there is a deep rich black fruit core with a distinct tannic grippiness that melts into the delicious long finish.There is also a subtle warmth compared to its northern cousins (or perhaps I imagine it) but this southerner is pretty much right up there in the Syrah leagues as far as I'm concerned.Glad to have a few more bottles,I shall not rush to open them now".
