The most recent tasting note on Winesearcher on this unique 1998 Chateau Musar white wine (a blend of Chardonnay,Viognier and Vermentino):-

"Served at room temperature (Serge Hochar told me not to cool it but to treat it as one of his reds).Rich yellow/brown hue but with little oxidation.Pronounced honey on the nose,but with a bewildering range of subtle spice and fruit notes.Toffee and nuts on the palate with some citrus.The wine changed a lot as it opened - shifting all the time but always very long in the mouth.Herbs came and went,parsley being notable.Spices,including nutmeg,plus meaty notes - almost like tasting Middle-Eastern food.Underripe apricots,touches of malt whisky and soft oaky character.Tasted mainly on its own,but it turned out to be an excellent partner to a chicken stir-fry with a subtle lime,ginger and chilli sauce.
Post food,its unique idiosyncratic character shone - the honeyed,toffee,lime flavours still strong and the myriad of other flavours blending beautifully and lasting in the long palate.I wanted to open another bottle but was persuaded to wait for another occasion - it has plenty of life yet.
A wine that some will not rate highly,but others,like me,will class as one of the greats.
