Description

"Tertre-Roteboeuf (the "hill of belching beef") is a 14.7 acre vineyard planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.Since the early 1980s,under the auspices of the talented Francois Mitjavile, this has been one of the most distinctive, exotic, compelling wines made in St.Emilion.It is gorgeous to drink young, yet promises to age well for 15+ years in the finest vintages.
A dramatic, flamboyant nose of roasted espresso, intermixed with chocolate fudge, blackberries,Asian spices and kirsch jumps from the glass of this ostentatious effort.Full-bodied and layered with an unctuous texture, gorgeous purity, and an undeniable hedonistic explosion of fruit and glycerin,it can be drunk now or cellared for 15+ years. To my taste, the 1998 is (with perhaps the 2000) the finest Tertre-Roteboeuf since the 1990".
(94 Points).

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition).

Two more recent tasting notes on the 1998 Tertre-Roteboeuf on CellarTracker:-

"Deep aromas of black cherry lead to a profound opening on the palate, with a surprising mineral stoniness in the finish. The high proportion of Cabernet Franc (20%) is apparent in the wine.Maybe this will soften, but it is a great drinking experience now".
(94 Points).

CellarTracker. (8/9/2016).

"This wine is really starting to come into its own now.Structured yet thick and silky with wonderful ripe flavors of black fruits, dark earth and eucalyptus.Full and beautifully balanced but no question this is an exotic wine that may not be for everyone given its almost over-the-top ripeness and slutty chocolate flavors.I love the finish though which catches the wild side of the wine and grips the tongue to remind you this is a fine Bordeaux that possesses freshness and acidity underneath.Had this with roast lamb sirloin and the lamb brought out the minty flavors of the wine and made for a fabulous pairing".
(95+ Points).
