Description

The 1998 has turned out to be one of the vintage's superb Medocs. It boasts an opaque black/purple color as well as a classic Leoville Las Cases display of lead pencil, gorgeously pure black raspberries and cherries, smoke, and graphite. A broad yet focused entry on the palate reveals firm tannin, medium to full body, superb concentration and purity, as well as a totally symmetrical mouthfeel
Score: 93 Robert Parker, April 2001

Decant for 10 hours WOW. Exceptional all-around light tannins light acidity too good for the Japanese Wagu I ate with it.

6/14/2016 - VINTEREST WROTE: 94 points
Stunning. retrospective note for a bottle drunk in 2014. decanted for 4 hours prior and consumed over 2 hrs. a robust wine that will drink well for 10 years yet.

5/26/2016 - KR66 LIKES THIS WINE: 95 points
A great classical LLC. With some air, the nose is bursting with cassis, sweet fruits and spices. The palate is dense, chewy but with perfect balance and an elegant and satiny texture. Pure ripe fruits, cigar-rolls, cedar and tons of more delicate stuff. There are still lots of polished tannins and a refreshing acidity which keeps you drinking more and more. Moderate alcohol. The finish is still tight and lasts around a minute. Still on the fruity side, so start drinking now only if you prefer younger Bdx (decanting neccesary). For the real deal, I will wait and drink after 2020 (-2040). From an underrated left-bank-vintage, so buy if you can get it, it is really gorgeous! For lovers of classic elegant Bdx only...
