Description

One of my favourite Australian wineries,Veritas' offerings are never excessively oaked,but possess extraordinarily ripe,concentrated fruit,great individuality,and the potential,in the top examples,to improve for two decades.
The Shiraz Heysen is a dazzling example of what Australia can do so well.A blend of 95% Shiraz and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from 26-year-old vines and aged in 40% new oak,its production averages 400 cases.The 1998 Shiraz Heysen is off the charts.An opaque black/purple is accompanied by an ostentatious bouquet of raspberries,blackberries,currants,and cherries.With airing,the bouquet also offers up smoke,pepper,licorice,and earth.In the mouth,the wine is unctuously textured and extremely full-bodied,with great purity and layers of flavour. Anticipated maturity: now-2020.
