My last TWO bottles of this First Growth Sauternes owned by the 'Lafite' Rothschilds since 1983.

Both are in 'out of the box' original condition and only recently released from the Wine Society Bond. Consequently they are in perfect order.

Rieussec was purchased by Domaines Rothschild over in 1983 and has continued to make great progress and is considered by many to be the finest Sauternes after d'Yquem. The 87 hectares are planted with 90% Semillon, 7% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle.

Tasted at an off-line lunch at La Trompette. The Rieussec 1999 has a lovely, vibrant nose with notes of grapefruit, Japanese yuzu and wild honey all with fine delineation and that vanilla-tinged patina one often finds with this estate. The palate is well balanced with a vibrant entry: attractive notes of white peach and honeycomb, leading to a very harmonious, waxy texture finish. This is an impressive off-vintage Rieussec drinking perfectly now, although it has the weight to keep. Tasted June 2011.
