Description

Produced from grapes grown on the original 5 acre vineyard named after winemaker David Anderson’s father. It was planted in 1980 with Cabernet Sauvignon (85%), Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and a little Petit Verdot. In this part of Heathcote the soils are acidic, the vines shallow rooted and cropping is at 1.5 to 2 tons per acre. The intensity thus produced sometimes allows the pressings to be removed, fermented and bottled seperately. The wine was matured for 18 months in substantially new French oak hogsheads and bottled without filtration.

Robert Parker 90 points!
The outstanding, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 Alan's Cabernet Sauvignon offers an opaque purple color, and a gorgeously sweet nose of black fruits, licorice, and vanillin. In the mouth, it displays a dry vintage port-like character. It is unctuous, thick, juicy, full-bodied, rich, monolithic, and destined to last for a decade or more. Production is 400 cases, and it was aged in French oak, of which 85% was new.
