Description

You are bidding on three bottles of Dominus from California – 2 bottles of the 1997 and one of the 1992. These are superb wines, that age beautifully. The condition of all three bottles is excellent as they have been stored in one of my Eurocaves since purchase. The 1992 has a level well into the neck. One of the 1997s has a level that is high neck, the other is into the neck but slightly lower. All labels are in very good condition, with just the odd nick from the shelving of the ‘cave’.

Quite rightly, Dominus has a wonderful reputation for high quality cabernets.

Saturated ruby-red. Multidimensional nose offers a panoply of scents: black plum, currant, leather, smoked meat, cigar ash, lead pencil, sandalwood, dark chocolate, licorice, brown sugar. Very bright and sharply defined; flavors of plum, leather, hot stones and lead pencil. An impeccably balanced wine of compelling sweetness, but rather dominated today by its structure. Strong, thoroughly ripe tannins spread out to coat the entire palate. Very long and subtle. This was bottled last June, a couple months later than the Napanook wine. 95 points

Very deep red-ruby. Very complex aromas of raspberry, licorice, road tar, lead pencil and mint; a faint vegetal nuance adds to its complexity. Fat, supple, sweet and mouthfilling, but can't match the '94 for sheer substance, nuance or depth. Finishes powerful and very ripe, with dusty, substantial tannins and a hint of alcohol. This will age more on its tannins than on its rather soft acidity. 92 points
