The deep golden, almost amber colour reminds me of the 1983 in its youth. Orange marmalade, crème brulée, browned butter, and smoke emerge from the relatively complex, attractive, and full-bodied 2000. Exhibiting tremendous density, good acidity, and loads of fruit and botrytis, it is a strong candidate for the wine of the vintage in Sauternes. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2018.
