Description

3 pristine bottles of Duhart Milon from the great 2000 vintage.

Duhart is a 4th growth, owned by the Lafite stable, and in this most magnificent of vintages shows off the purity of this wine.

The wine was bought en primeur and stored immaculately in my cellar since day 1, so complete provenance is known and assured.

It is just starting to emerge into its peak drinking window, although it must be said it was irrestible on release. with one of the highest % of cabernet sauvignon for any Duhart, and beautifully ripened merlot, the style is one of thrust, energy, roundness and charm. there is an elegance here, particularly in the aromatic, sweet fruit on entry and deceptively ripe, crisp tannins.

Certainly the finest Duhart since 1982/85, and perhaps ever? in my opinion, only the 2005 really challenges. there is always a tendancy to overrate new releases for the purposes of selling the latest and greatest, and I truly believe bordeaux 2000 is actually turning out better than initially advertised - considering at the time it was the most hyped vintage in history, and Bob Parker called in the greatest vintage ever, is no small achievement.

"An outstanding Duhart, certainly one of the best produced at this estate since the 1996, 1986, and 1982, this blend of 80.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19.5% Merlot reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as notes of lead pencil intermixed with wet stones, black currants, and a certain leafiness. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and dense, but tightly-knit, with considerable tannin, it will require patience"

"At en primeur: superb definition on the nose. Very pure with fine cedar and pencil-lead notes. Lovely ripeness here. Fine acidity. Pure classic Cabernet. Fresh and very classy - a Cabernet lovers delight. Then after bottling in November 2004. Just a stunning 2000 that offers great value for money. A pure nose of cedar, blackberry and pine. A nose that screams Pauillac from the church tower. Well-balanced palate with good definition. Peppery black fruits with a touch of black truffle developing. Cool, refined with a long, regal Cabernet finish. From 2010"

Why am I selling? a full cellar to be frank and I went quite long in acquiring it after tasting in the 2000 primeurs so can spare some.
