Two cracking right bank Bordeaux from two stellar vintages!

Grand Corbin-Despagne 2000 St.Emilion 2 x 75cl bottles. Current price £29.30

‘This has been a property to watch since the late nineties. All of the recent vintages have represented a relatively virile, muscular, tannic style of St.-Emilion. The black/purple-colored 2000 is a sleeper of the vintage. Revealing aromas of plum, wood smoke, iron, blackberries, licorice, underbrush, and cassis, this full-bodied, layered, powerful, muscular St.-Emilion has some tannin to shed, but its finish reveals considerable persistence. It is a strong, virile, broodingly impressive effort. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2018.’ RP 90

‘The smoky, sultry characters and ripe, intense plum notes on the nose immediately reveal this as a 2000. The palate shows the class of the wine with elegance, softness and good concentration; now the firmer edged tannins have melted down, the wine retains its shape but is altogether approachable and beautifully balanced.
