Description

An opportunity to have a mini-horizontal tasting of St.Emilion Grand Cru Classe wines from the outstanding 2000 Bordeaux vintage. The lot consists of three bottles of 2000 St.Emilion Grand Cru Classe:-

1 bottle of 2000 Chateau Haut-Badon.
1 bottle of 2000 Chateau Tertre-Daugey.
1 bottle of 2000 Chateau Cote de Baleau.

The dominant Merlot grape gives St.Emilion wines their smooth and luscious character, while the Cabernet Franc adds some weight and complexity. This perfect blend produces a soft, rich, blackcurranty red, with complex, elegant flavours, derived from oak barrel maturation. The nose, usually tending to have aromas of plums, cherries, red berries and cedar, initially with a smooth creamy texture.Grand Cru status is only bestowed on the best wines of the appellation. These three wines should now be at the peak of their drinking windows.

Robert Parker describes the quality of the Bordeaux 2000 vintage as follows:-

"The 2000 vintage was Bordeaux's magnum opus...the pinnacle of quality.Bordeaux quality has never been better and the 2000 vintage provides the proof".
"Cote de Baleau is an-up-and-coming estate owned by the Reiffers family. This wine's upbringing is overseen by the omnipresent Michel Rolland.
Of the three wines made by the Reiffers family, the 2000 Cote de Baleau is the tightest and most sinewy. Its dense,opaque,ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of black cherries and cassis, medium to full-body,moderately high tannin, and a long, concentrated finish, with excellent precision and clarity. Anticipated maturity:2005-2016".
(89-91 Points).

Robert Parker. (Parker's Wine Buyer's Guide. Sixth Edition).

Wine Spectator awarded the 2000 Tertre-Daugey 91 Points, and the 2000 Cote de Baleau 90 Points.
