Description

Very smoky,with berry,coffee,and tobacco aromas.Full-bodied,with polished velvety tannins,plenty of fruit,and a cedary aftertaste.Tight and compacted,this is better than the 2000 Mouton.It's a baby 1986 Mouton.Solid and very,very fine.It persists for a long time on the palate.Best after 2009.

Very,very deep crimson.Very,very rich and full,very,very silky texture...a winning combination.Definitely spice.Very full and ripe.Round,satin textured.Very,very rich black fruits.Tannins are quite rigorous.Deeper,tougher,and more dramatic than most.

Jancis Robinson.


The Mouton Rothschild 2001 was quite closed and nearly impenetrable when I tasted it in 2003.It exhibits a dense ruby/purple color and a hint of new saddle leather,intermixed with expresso,blackcurrant liqueur,and Asian spices.As I indicated last year,this wine needs to flesh out for it to merit a higher score. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2035.

Huge colour,really intense and black,big tobaccoey nose,with lots of cassis fruit,already explosive on the nose,with great richness on the palate,but a firm,structured finish.Will turn out really complex and perhaps finer than the more voluptuous.
