Description

Because the Merlot grape did not have time to ripen in 2002,it was a poor year for the Right Bank wines.However Cabernet Sauvignon performed better,so it was a reasonable vintage for the Left Bank of Bordeaux,where these two wines were produced.

"2002 Bordeaux wine finds its strength in the Left Bank. 2002 Bordeaux wine is at its best with Cabernet Sauvignon based wines. The 2002 Bordeaux vintage did not get off to a good start. The flowering was uneven. due to the strong rains. The wet and cold May weather produced a poor crop set. The Merlot did not ripen well. The summer remained cool and lacked sun. Things were not looking good for 2002 Bordeaux wine at this point. The only thing that saved the vintage was the warm temperatures that finally arrived in mid September".

"A candidate for one of the top wines of the vintage,the 2002 Lascombes has turned in a brilliant effort with a deep ruby/purple color as well as gorgeous aromas of plums, cassis, black cherries, and flowers. It boasts a terrific texture, medium to full body, an expansive, multi-layered mid-palate and a tremendously pure finish revealing nicely integrated wood, acidity, alcohol, and tannin. This is a beauty of precision and power. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020".

"Pretty much as my note of December 2014 but less restrained when first opened. Good claret from a modest year but it needs a few hours to open (we gave it 4 hours). It is a food wine, of course, and was good with beef but it was also drinking well with cheese later and was soft and fruitier on its own after a couple more hours".
